Doug is primarily engaged in estate planning and has been working in this area for over 30 years. He is an active member of the Eugene Estate Planning Council and spends many hours engaged in the study and understanding of this complex area of practice.

Doug’s strength is his experience in coordinating and working with clients and their advisors in developing an estate plan that considers family relationships, objectives and goals, the nature, depth and breadth of assets, and the client’s intentions about management and ultimate distribution. He is experienced in recommending plans that are workable, understandable, and cost-effective. Doug is also aware of the importance of titling assets properly, whether by way of separate ownership, co-tenancy, or specific beneficiary designations, and making sure that clients understand how their assets should be held in sync with the estate plan that is chosen. Estate plans can range from simple wills to very complex trusts, including family business arrangements. Any plan is based upon a client’s specific goals and objectives, family complexities, and tax considerations.

Doug has dedicated his career to his clients and works not only at the planning stage, but also assisting them in the most difficult times when there is a loss of a family member. He has in-depth experience dealing with complicated estate planning matters and the set up, transfer, and taxation issues of trusts for families. He enjoys working with other referral attorneys, financial advisors, trust officers, certified public accountants, and insurance advisors to coordinate the holding, management and transfer of assets.

Admitted to practice in Oregon, Doug is a member of the Oregon State Bar and the Lane County Bar Association. Doug is an inactive member of the California State Bar. He is a member of both the Oregon State Bar’s Estate Planning and Administration Section and the Taxation Section. Doug is a past chair and section member of the Probate Section of the Lane County Bar Association and is also the past President and a former board member of the Eugene Estate Planning Council.
