In a perfect world, the trial court reaches the right answer. And yet, your adversary may appeal. After all your work, your success at trial needs protection on appeal. In other cases, your adversary may have convinced a trial court to take a wrong turn. A novel question may beg for review on appeal.
In either situation, Luvaas Cobb can help. We handle a wide range of appeals of civil cases in state or federal courts. No case is typical. But many of the firm’s appeals involve personal injury claims, other tort claims, legal malpractice, insurance coverage, construction defects, real property, schools, and government agencies.
The firm’s appellate attorney, Joel DeVore, undertakes appeals either working directly with a client or working in association with a trial attorney.
Our approach is pragmatic. Every appeal must be assessed in a realistic way that considers what is to be gained, as well as the cost in time and resources. Sometimes, mediation or alternative dispute resolution may be an option, even on appeal. If the best approach is to seek further judicial review, Luvaas Cobb will not hesitate to resolve the matter before the Oregon Court of Appeals, the Oregon Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, or the United States Supreme Court.
